Blepharoplasty is one of the most common facial aesthetic procedures for good reason. We are all either born with puffy eyelids and sagging eyelid skin or we develop them due to the effects of aging, gravity and sun damage. Excess skin and fat in the upper and lower eyelids can make you appear tired, your eyes appear smaller and your eyelids look baggy. Heavy eyelids and eyelid bags make a person look older than their actual age.
While adequate sleep, specialized eye products and laser resurfacing can soften lines around the eyes, blepharoplasty is often the only option to permanently rejuvenate the eye area. Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, rejuvenates the eyes by reducing wrinkles, puffiness, removing eyelid bags and eliminating drooping of the eyelids. Blepharoplasty can open your eyes, improve your appearance and, in some cases, enhance your vision.
Blepharoplasty can address:
- Reduce puffiness in the upper eyelids
- Remove lower eyelid “bags”
- Eliminate darkness and shadows in the lower eyelids
- Remove loose skin in the eyelids that causes wrinkles
- Reduce hollowing in the lower eyelid and “tear trough” areas
- Reduce droopiness or “rounding” of the lower eyelid
- In severe cases, blepharoplasty can improve a person’s vision
Blepharoplasty surgery involves removing excess tissue from the upper eyelids to recreate a youthful eyelid crease and removing lower eyelid “bags” to eliminate the tired eye look. Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia depending upon the complexity of the procedure and your preference. Incisions are hidden in the natural eyelid crease and are meticulously closed with fine, delicate sutures.
In some cases, Dr. Weber will recommend combining an upper blepharoplasty with browlift surgery, fat transfer or undereye dermal fillers to fully rejuvenate the eye area.
