The face is a very common location for the occurrence of skin cancer because it is constantly exposed to the sun. Once a facial skin cancer has been diagnosed with a small biopsy, the gold-standard treatment for basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers is Mohs excision. This unique procedure is most often performed by fellowship-trained Dermatologists. Dr. Weber works closely with a handful of exceptional Mohs surgeons in the Denver area and can provide information if you do not currently have a referral to a Mohs surgeon. The Mohs technique results in very high clearance rates, the lowest possible rates of skin cancer recurrence and the smallest possible wound.

Melanoma is not as amenable to the Mohs technique and often requires excision of the tumor, 5 – 7 day delay during which the specimen is analyzed, followed by repair of the wound once the tumor has been completely cleared. Regardless of the technique used to remove a facial skin cancer, the result is a defect of skin and sometimes deeper tissues that require repair.

I found Dr. Weber to have everything I was looking when it came to plastic surgeons. He was professional, caring, honest and from others who had surgery performed by him, he is extremely talented. Both he and his staff are 5-star.

Dr. Weber benefited from extensive training by Dr. Shan Baker at the University of Michigan. The author of the only definitive facial reconstructive surgical texts, Dr. Baker instilled in Dr. Weber his philosophy for facial reconstruction during over 1000 Mohs reconstruction procedures that the two performed together. Dr. Weber uses the most modern reconstructive techniques available to provide an optimal, functional and aesthetic result.

Dr. Weber will discuss with you all of the steps required for your reconstruction at the time of your consultation at Weber Facial Plastic Surgery. Ultimately, our goal is to get our patients from the first step of skin cancer diagnosis, removal and repair through the healing process to the point where family, friends and neighbors do not notice any evidence of the procedures performed.

Reconstruction is often performed following:

  • Removal of basal cell carcinoma
  • Excision of squamous cell carcinoma
  • Wide local excision of melanoma
  • Removal of atypical skin malignancies
  • Removal of large atypical facial moles
